Disc- Play DVD From Folder

I want to play a video dvd on my laptop, but not using the physical disc. Looking at one of SMPlayer's "Open" options, I see "Disc/Play DVD From Folder". Does this mean I can copy my video dvd to my hard drive and play from the hard drive instead of off the the dvd disk itself? If so, how do I get the dvd to my hard drive? Do I copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files to my hard drive, do I "rip" the DVD, do I create an ISO? Thank you

SMPlayer can play a DVD from a ISO file but it can also play it from a folder that contains the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.
