Hi,
I'm using SMplayer on newer laptop with Intel HD graphics 4000. Someone told me I should use VLC instead since it supports hw accelerated playback using VA-API which mplayer doesn't support. Is this correct and does it matter playback quality wise?

It seems there's a fork of mplayer with VA-API support.
