Might I suggest you add a signature (I can see there are no sigs for members) to your profile to explain r xxxx numbering.
There are a few threads through this forum who don't know that the revision number is an update.

An "unstable" package contains the latest changes in smplayer. It may contain new features, bug fixes... but sometimes it can also include experimental features that may not work well. I doubt it can harm your system, it's just that some features of smplayer may not work as expected. But in many cases it will work better than the "stable" version, since it usually contains bug fixes. For example in the stable version (14.3) the option to download audio from Youtube videos doesn't work anymore (due to changes in the youtube site), but that's fixed in the "unstable" version.
