Support for mpv?

Postby rthomsen » Sun Jul 27, 2014 7:04 pm

Is there any plan to support mpv? It now has a client library, libmpv.

Mpv seems like a much better alternative to mplayer/mplayer2. For example, mpv supports wayland and va-api, and can be compiled with external ffmpeg. Also, contrary to mplayer(2), it is very actively developed.

I didn't take a look at that library yet, however I think that in order to support mpv it would be necessary to write smplayer from scratch. In other words, it's impossible (or very difficult) to support in a single application mplayer/mplayer2 and mpv. A special version for mpv should be written from scratch, and that's a lot of work.

And after all probably most users wouldn't notice the difference of using mpv or mplayer, so I don't know if it would be worth it...
