Unable to retrieve the Youtube page

When I attempt to play a video on my workstation, I get the error message:
"Unable to retrieve the Youtube page"
and the video does not load or play.

Also, when I do Help >> [Update Youtube code] on my workstation, it fails with the error message:
"An error happened while downloading the file:
Host updates.smplayer.info not found"

When I do these actions in a separate account on my Linux workstation, I get the same results; so I know the problem is not specific to one user on my workstation.

When I do these actions on a different computer (my laptop) with an identical software install, everything works correctly.

I can successfully use YouTube with both Firefox and Konqueror on my workstation.

SMPlayer correctly played YouTube URL's on my workstation yesterday, and I did not change anything since yesterday.

This is not the first time I encountered this specific set of problems; it happened once before. I was able to resolve the problem, apparently only temporarily, by deleting something. Sadly, I do not remember what that something was. Even so, the "fix" was temporary, and I need a permanent solution.

I've been having the exact same problem for about a little over 2 weeks now. I have a bunch of YouTube video links saved in a short playlist to re-watch over and over again in the background, instead of listening to the radio. When I run the playlist, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I receive the same error message "unable to retrieve the Youtube page".

Closing out of SMPlayer doesn't seem to work. Manually shutting down the process doesn't work. Rebooting doesn't work. Closing out of all applications in case of some unknown process conflict doesn't work.

It just seems to occasionally seems to resolve itself without reason whenever it feels like it. 2 weeks ago it started happening sporadically. Now it happens every other time I can get SMP to work. It's gotten to the point I am afraid to close out of SMP when I can get it to work because I know the next time I start it up it won't.

Devs - can you please post a reason and a possible ETA for a solution so we are not left in the dark about a serious bug in functionality?
