multiple screen refreshes when launching local files

when I click on a file from windows explorer the screen refreshes multiple times before SMPlayer starts the video. it's very annoying. I've used SMPlayer for several years and haven't experienced this before. but had to reinstall it and the problem appeared. there has to be a setting to eliminate this, but I can't find it.

Is the option Stay on top -> While playing (menu Video) enabled? This causes the smplayer window to hide and show.

Or maybe you're using directx as video output. In this case, change it to direct3d in preferences -> video.
