Same problem here but with 32-bit (14.9.0.6449). Tried enabling windows fonts but it didn't work.
Windows 8.1 (x64).

According to the log mplayer fails to load the subtitles, but it doesn't say why.

Have you tested the new version with mpv?

They don't seem to work with the "Try to autodetect" option, the last working exe I have is of r37305 and still trying to work back.

The subtitles worked fine for me until I enabled that option, both logs show the '-subcp enca:en:ISO-8859-1' which the autodetect option enabled.

I believe I found the problem, it may have been MPlayer commit SVN r37309, I was able to reproduce on some other videos I had with autodetect enabled, and reversing that particular change fixed it.

New packages uploaded, probably fixed, give it a try. The fixed ones are in redxii-unstable using mplayer r37328.

Nope, sorry . As redxii pointed out, they don't seem to work with the "Try to autodetect" option. and yes I've installed the latest package (r37328).
