downloaded installer smplayer-14.9.0.6731-win32.exe
selected MPV engine, install fails because it fails to download MPV.7z:
"Failed to download MPV: 'resolving hostname' "
BTW, looks like the installer ignores system proxy settings
OS is Win XPSP3
temp host issue or no more valid install option?

It works for me. The mpv package is downloaded from http://mpv.srsfckn.biz. Maybe that site was down when you tried to install smplayer.

retried, same problem:

"Downloading MPV...
Failed to download MPV: 'resolving hostname'.

I think the installer itself is broken, don't see any instance on the proxy console - it clearly ignores the network setup, or at this point it does just nothing at all. The browser can access no problem at link you mention, so it's not (that) site the problem, it's the installer definitely broken.

How is the proxy configured? The installer can only read from Internet Explorer's proxy settings. You can download and put mpv-i686-20150215.7z in the same folder as the installer and it will use it to copy MPV.
