question
1 anyone know can the recommended zip uget can download ANY sites .
2 opening uget program from desktop then CREATE pasting in a url,
unlike Smplayer if i do it from desktop from sites and even YOU TUBE
it doesn't work

when i put the you tube file in the uget zip
CREATE NEW DOWNLOAD
then start download
it downloads like a 6kb file
or a file that wmp cant open or says missing codecs or something
like WATCH 793 kb .


is it way its set up ?,
it NEEDS be part of a program like smtube to fetch it or firefox ugot plug in ?
to fetch the file?

the uGet desktop i tried seemed to be more of a copy paste manager
copy a url from any site to clip board -and download like how atube catcher is
from ANY site

i looked all over the documentation i cant figure how to dl OUTSIDE of smtube w the uget zip

This link points to an HTML (Hyper-Text Markup Language) page. This page contains text, links, markup, embedded plugins and Javascript. HTML is designed for web browsers to download, parse and display. Regular download managers like uGet have no idea or even any desire to make sense of it. Their purpose is to download and save the link they're given.

In order for you to download the actual video you need a program (youtube-dl or SMTube) to download the HTML page, parse it and extract the link inside it that points to the real video file. This explanation is grotesquely over-simplified as Youtube doesn't want you to download the videos posted to their site because they don't get any revenue unless they can display advertisements. Another issue they have is they're not able to control the content once it has been downloaded.

Anyways because of this they use a variety of methods to obfuscate the link that contains the videos actual location. For this reason you need to use either or SMTube to get the real link and in SMTube's case pass that link to uGet to download. Outside of these (or similar) programs there is no easy way to download a video.

BTW youtube-dl supports a LOT of different sites, but requires that you use the command line.

Hi, I think you may be interested in this. I just found a gui for youtube-dl which works with Smtube.
I added it to smtube's player list and tested it out. It works very well except that it doesn't automatically record the URL. But one can just choose copying url to clip board from the right click menu and paste it into youtube-dlg. It works better than uget because youtube-dl has a lot more options. It is also cross platform though I don't use Windows so haven't tested that.

For Ubuntu there is a ppa I actually tested with the ppa version.
