Best video output

I am searching for the video output driver that provides the best quality. I have a nvidia card and my search told me to use vdpau. I dont know if this information is correct, so would like to know that.

Also using vdpau i get a cache fill 0% and then the player crashes. This didnt happen before, probably a new update problem.
