You can specify the initial position of the smplayer window using the -pos option.

-pos command only handles command for everytime Smplayer starts, not everytime when file is opened. mpv has a default command to handle window positioning. Why don't you make a similiar command to make this possible?

Yes, I think I can add an option to center the window.

I've just added (r7157) an option to center the window in the desktop (preferences -> interface).
