I have a new desktop PC to which I've added Extix in a separate partition from Windows. Extix is a one-man distro based on Debian/Ubuntu with LXQT for its desktop environment. It includes SMPlayer for its audio/video playback.

Windows 7 on this PC plays audio through the external speaker system I have plugged into the PC. However, SMPlayer in Extix is playing MP3s through the little speaker inside the PC. It's not playing MP4s at all.

I don't know how to start selecting audio and video drivers listed in SMPlayer. Synaptic has a bunch of mplayer, pulseaudio, and alsa stuff installed.

Have you tried to change the audio output in preferences -> general -> audio?

I meant the preferences dialog in SMPlayer.

I hope you read this post before the others, because the problem is fixed! I played with alsamixergui and turned off the speaker channel. Now the external speakers are playing just fine in all audio apps, including SMPlayer.

While the speaker channel was up, there was no sound coming out of the externals.
