Does it work if you enable the option to use the Windows fonts in preferences -> subtitles?

Thanks for a quick response!

Windows fonts are enabled -- subtitles don't work in either case.

I've been testing some more and, curiously enough, the secondary subtitles work with custom styles after switching both primary and secondary on and off.

I can't reproduce the problem on Windows Vista.

Can you provide a link to a video or subtitles with this problem?

What was exactly the version you were using before? (There were a lot of 14.x versions)

The difference is that v. 15.9 installs a newer version of mpv.
