I timed how much it takes to create a thumbnail from a 720p video (4x4 png format). These are the results:
Previous version:
mpv: 29s
mplayer: 15s
mpv: 12s
mplayer: 6s

Wow, impressive improvement!
Now I've just had another idea: offer an option to generate thumbnail files of every video in a directory (or some selection of videos), with proper naming and saving done automatically. Doable?
