An apparent flaw in SMPlayer's handling of forward jumps?

Postby newuser101 » Sun May 22, 2016 8:06 pm

rvm:

There seems to be a flaw in the way SMPlayer handles forward jumps in videos. Let's say I'm viewing a video that is 5 minutes and 25 seconds long (325 seconds). If I start the video and immediately start to use forward jumps of 1 minute each, the video will hang up at the 5 minute mark, leaving 25 seconds unviewed and also unreachable (I guess since 325 seconds is not a whole number multiple of 60 seconds?). Any click on the seek bar has no effect, either behind or ahead. The video is just stuck. The same thing seems to happen for shorter jumps (3 seconds each) if the length of the video in seconds is not a whole number multiple of 3 seconds. The only way to continue is to skip to the previous video or to the next video.

When SMPlayer reaches the 5 minute mark, the last 1 minute jump should take it to the end of the video, even if there are only 25 seconds left. It shouldn't just hang up because there's not a full minute left in the video.

That's the behavior I'm seeing, anyway...

Edit: I just did a test on a longer video (36:53). With the video in fullscreen mode, I skipped ahead by 1 minute jumps all the way until the video flashed and the screen went black. When I hit the F key to leave fullscreen mode, the SMPlayer interface returned and showed that the video was stuck at the 33:07 mark. No click on the Seek bar had any effect. Clicking once on the screen caused the video to re-start from the beginning. The next time I did the skipping, the video was halted at the 36:06 mark. This behavior is not consistent, except for the halting at some time before the end after skipping to the end. Weird.

Are you using mplayer or mpv? This is important because SMPlayer just sends the seek command to mplayer/mpv, so it can actually a problem of that player.

Also, are you using absolute or relative seeking? And precise seeking? (Preferences -> Interface -> Seeking)

Okay, here's the situation: I'm using MPV, and the problem is still present with absolute seeking (with or without precise seeking checked) and also with relative seeking (with or without precise seeking checked). Also, the problem does happen even if the video is not in fullscreen mode. Just start up a video and immediately use the Arrow Up key repeatedly to skip to the end...the video stops at some time short of the end. This happens pretty much every time.

Edit: (Sorry to be doing this a little bit at a time.) There's even more of a problem: videos now come to the end, stop with no time left to play, and none of the control bar icons work...no jumps back, no start over. Plus SMPlayer does not automatically go on to the next video. This is new, and didn't affect previous versions. I don't think I've changed any settings to cause this problem. This happens if Repeat is selected on the Playlist or not selected, either way. Maybe I'll try to re-install...hang on...okay, re-installed r7911 and no change. Now the video stops at the end, but I notice there's just a slight bit of white at the right-hand side of the seek bar, indicating that the video is not quite finished (even though the time shows that the video is ended). This is new behavior with the last few updates, I'm pretty sure, because I used to skip through a video and the next video would start, and always the next video would start when one just finished.

Anyway, I wonder if I'm the only person seeing this behavior...

I'm trying but I think I can't reproduce the problem.

I open a video, duration 4:07, I press Up 4 times, now I'm at 4:02 and the video keeps playing until the end. I tried with different videos, I can't see the problem.

I still can't reproduce the problem even with that option set to false :?
