What do I need to install in order to run 1080p videos?

What do I need to install in order to run HD videos downloaded from YouTube? In 2013 I downloaded an HD video by Prodigy from YouTube. Back then I was a Windows user and the download was done with a program capable of downloading at HD resolutions. And in Windows that video runs quite fine using POT Player 1.6. But here in Linux it seems I can't watch it - I get only sound but not the visual part. In case you wanna try running the video yourselves, I uploaded it to zippyshare and renamed it (in order to avoid any copy-right bull*hit thay may occur).
I also tried running the video with VLC and still the same - no video, only sound.

That video plays fine in my computer.
Maybe you have a problem with codecs in your linux system.

Is there a way to find out what codecs I need?

Is there any error in the mpv/mplayer log (menu "view") after trying to play the video?

Idk and now there's no way to check. I had a squeaking problem with linux audio, so I installed libasound2-plugins-extra in an attempt to fix it (which it did) and now the video runs fine. Frankly, it would never cross my mind to install audio plugins in order to fix a video problem.
Still, thanks for taking the time to help me. :)

The video is pretty much bog-standard Youtube downloade video--h.264 video and aac audio in an mp4 container. Perhaps your distro is one that doesn't enable those by default.
