This is the log when auto cache is disabled.
The "[aac @ 0x7f3eec2e5940]channel element 0.12 is not allocated" never stops.

No video is played at all.

Mplayer flickering and black artefacts do not produce any messages in the log.

Probably bugs in mplayer or the video format is not well supported by mplayer (or the ffmpeg library).

About the flickering problem, try to select a different video output in preferences -> general -> video.

Thanks!

As I've said above, disabling "Repaint the background of the video window" helps to avoid flickering and artefacts.
There's no flickering with mpv or when a standalone mplayer is used. So smplayer might be the culprit.

BTW, the older version of (s)mplayer work fine.
