how 2 read srt subtitles when srt file is separated of video

I have files with following structure
myFileName.mkv
myFileName.srt

If I play the myFileName.mkv it does not display the subtitles from file myFileName.srt
How can I do that?

This is possible with VLC

Be sure the option "autoload subtitle files" in preferences -> subtitles is set to "all subtitles containing the movie name".

* all subtitles containing the name of the video
* all subtitles in the folder

None of the option is prodiding the expect result.
