Screenshots and Previews

Hi Richard,

These items were suggested a while back and I was wondering if any of these are still on the to-do list. If not, it would be MUCH appreciated if they could be added...

1) Option to create Screenshots in the video folder as a default
2) Option to create Screenshots in JPG format .. (a fraction of the size)
3) Option to save Screenshots as vidname00n.jpg .. (to differentiate shots)
4) Save Previews (option?) as vidname.ext.jpg and Screenshots as vidname00n.ext.jpg .. (for cases where the same vidname with different extensions are in the same folder)

These options would make organizing and cataloging videos much easier.

I think "4" could be easier to do, but others are not so easy to implement. Specially I would prefer that "2" and "3" would be implemented in mplayer.

Thanks, Ricardo. I was hoping 2 and 3 might be doable since it is similar to what you've done with the Preview mode. I hoped Preview code could somehow be leveraged for a screenshot function. That would take care of 1, as well. Oh well... ;>)

I agree, it would be nice if mplayer provided these options natively. How could this be requested from the mplayer team, and is there any chance they might actually might be willing to add this?

Specially 3 is not so easy to implement as it may seem. Also I think it's something that would be better to be implemented in mplayer.

Actually some time ago someone sent a patch to the mplayer-dev mailing list which implemented that functionality but unfortunately it wasn't accepted.

About the previews, I never saw this feature as something related to the screenshots. For me there's a big difference, the video preview is mainly implemented in smplayer, mplayer just extracts the frames, everything else is done by smplayer. On the other hand, the screenshots are done by mplayer (smplayer just changes one thing: the directory where the screenshots are saved).

If mplayer extracts the frames in PNG, does smplayer then convert them to JPEG?

Does this mean that the default directory COULD be set to the video directory? That would be immensely helpful... :>)

Perhaps if the screenshot folder field is left blank then things could default to the video folder?
