MCE Remote Pause button on XP

Hi, I did search via google & this forum, but I dont see any relevant topics...I am trying to get the pause button on my MCE remote to work with SMPLayer on XP, do I need to install WinLirc for this ? I did place the lirc.conf in the profile/.smplayer folder, it had no effect.

I have tried most other players on the market but totally LOVE this player, and this is the only thing that doesn't work for me...this and the play button.
