Need help getting rid of something while playing

So a few months ago I hit some button while watching something and it brought up a status overlay that won't go away. The overlay itself is just a "play" icon and the time the movie as at out of it's total time. I've spent an hour or more trying to find the menu item that gets rid of this but for the life of me I can't find the bastard. I've always attempted to hit random buttons in the hopes that something similar to what caused it will uncause it. Unfortunately, no luck. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.
