AutoPlay with Win Vista and SMP

This is a simplistic question from a simplistic guy. I started using SMPlayer to avoid using Win Media Player - WMP is a mess in many ways, but one thing I enjoyed was the easy way my video files started under AutoPlay. I noticed that Vista didn't recognize SMP among the options for video file AutoPlay, but I managed to add SMP using something called AutoPlay Repair - now when I slip a disk in, SMP automatically opens but nothing starts playing until I manually start it. Is there any tweak I need to do to make this happen, or am I trying the wrong approach?
