just tested the latest version smplayer-0.8.1.4562-win32 for the directx(fast) problem
works fine on avi, mkv, flv files
in wmv, like the version before, it exits normally, i have audio but no image
just green screen
and crashes on mp4 files

Do you have a link to a wmv ?

Sounds like you should just use direct3d, unless there's any reason you can't use it? It isn't any slower than directx, usually on older (usually XP era) systems it's the only one that works. What is your video card, driver version and OS?

my OS is windows 7 enterprise sp1 with the latest updates
my video card is nvidia 9500 GT and the driver is 296.10
i have two wmv files on my computer and i just searched the net and downloaded some more
as for direct3d output
using the latest version smplayer-0.8.1.4562-win32
it crashes also on direct3d
just on mp4 files, just like directx(fast)

after all these errors, direct3d or directx(fast), i got a little mad
i erased smplayer (files and registry)
downloaded stable version 0.8.0 with MPlayer rSVN r34835
retested all the video formats i got - avi, wmv, mkv, mp4, flv
no more errors
everything went fine on direct3d or directx(fast)
no more green screen on wmv files
no more zoom problem
and all that using MPlayer rSVN r34835
still using 0.8.0 i used MPlayer rSVN r35250
and all the errors reappeared
for now i'm sticking with version 0.8.0 with MPlayer rSVN r34835

Well I'm trying to get a debug report for them to fix it but so far I can't reproduce it. I use Win 7 x64/Core i7/GTX 275 (using 306.23 from nvidia) to build/use (S)MPlayer and also have a Core i5/Intel HD Graphics laptop and couldn't reproduce it on that either.
