Sometimes smplayer will not unpause

I am running:
smplayer 0.8.3-1~quantal1 (from the rvm ppa)
lubuntu 12.10
mplayer2 2.0-554-gf63dbad-1ubuntu0.1
amd64
kernel 3.5.0-23-generic

Basically, I use the spacebar to pause and unpause smplayer. Sometimes when I hit spacebar to unpause, nothing happens and I have to go ten seconds back and forth (using the arrow keys) in order to get it playing again. It is like it is stuck and I have to go back and forth in order to unstick it.

I mainly play mp4s, downloaded from youtube using youtube-dl, but this has happened with other media as well.

Any ideas?

No help to you, but using the Windows portable SMP (w/ mplayer2), space bar works. Probably a bug. Can report it, but before you do, try re - downloading newest smp, then uninstall / reinstall.

You could also try replacing the mplayer included in most SMP packages w/ mplayer2. Simply delete all files in the mplayer folder in SMP installation folder.
Extract (or extract, then copy) mplayer2 files into SAME, EXACT location as mplayer files were (don't create any extra sub folders).

Then in SMP prefs >General tab, in box for mplayer executable, browse to the location of mplayer2.exe, & select it. Save prefs.
Can easily go back to mplayer, by reversing the steps. I don't think it matters if using SMP installed or portable version, when switching out mplayer / mplayer2.
