Audio loop during video buffering

I am very new to this player and wanted to watch a Your tube video... playing the same video directly (without the SMPlayer (using Firefox) all seems to work fine..... so I then copied the URL and used SMPlayer to select and open the video. I then closed Firefox and all other applications that may have been using bandwidth..... I do have a rather slow connection.
As the movie started to play the video stopped as part of the normal buffering..(due to my slow connection speed) ......but the Audio started to loop. This happens until the video buffering is sufficient to start playing the movie again.(usually about 5 seconds )
This is not what other players do and is quite annoying.... is there some way to use the config file to fix this?...or anything else to do?.... I may un install and try a different player if this cannot be fixed.

Try another audio output in preferences -> general -> audio.

I don't see preferences nor general... the menu choices are Audio > etc.

To open the preferences dialog select Options -> Preferences.
